About This Blog

Dakota Backcountry is inspired by my love of western American history, the pleasure I take in this region’s wildlife, and the enjoyment I derive from hunting and knocking about out here in some of this nation’s  remaining wild country.   It’s all about something I want to make sure is passed on to my sons and daughter, and in turn, onto their children and my great-grandchildren.

Consequently, we’ll be talking about hunting generally and the role it plays in modern wildlife management; and also about the future of hunting.  Outdoor recreation in the Dakotas, Wyoming, and Montana will  get a look; and we’ll  explore  the mounting pressures on wildlife and wildlife habitat on the Northern Great Plains and what can be done to relieve and eliminate those pressures.

Hopefully, there will be a sharing of news, opinions, and ideas about the value of conserving  America’s wild country and wildlife, as well as maintaing and preserving the North American Conservation Model.
