The Fourth.

July 5, 2010

Last night we went over to the Bike Path and set up our canvas chairs to watch the fireworks display with the grandson.  The last time I’d bothered to go look at fireworks was about 10 years ago.   I was surprised to see that R&D had been busy and there were new — displays, I guess — I’m not certain what the name for the aerial result is.

Earlier in the day BKM had packed a picnic lunch, Lee joined us, and we took the Button off for his first foray into the Black Hills.  We left in a rainstorm, drove up into the Hills until the sky lightened, then headed for the light.  By the time we hit Spearfish Canyon the rain had stopped, the roads were dry, and the sun was shinning.

We stopped at Roughlock Falls for lunch.  Button made friends with an tourist’s dog and viewed his first moocher chipmunk up close.

The kid didn’t seem overly impressed by the chipmunk, but thought the waterfall was particularly funny for some reason.

As for the fireworks, the kid touched off a few, “Oh Wow’s,” but seemed more intent on sitting on his grandmother’s lap.

The jury is still out on which side the kid will come down on.

Thumbs up to the Falls and the Button. My jury is still out on fireworks.
