Coming Soon! Signs of spring in the backcountry

March 25, 2010

It’s been a brutal week for a lazy slob with bad knees.  But it’s drawing to a close, and most importantly, I have two definite signs of  impending spring to pass along.

I’m partnering with Pete Carrels, another Sierra Club staffer, to get Will Steger, the Arctic explorer, to come down from Ely, MN, to put on two programs concerning his exploits and the obvious evidence of climate change that he’s witnessed in the Far North country.

Pete gets Mr. Steger for an event at SD State University in Brookings on April 19th.  We get Mr. Steger in Rapid City at the SD School of Mines & Technology on April 20th.

There will be more on this as the events draw closer.

And then, there’s the return of the Black Hills Rugby Association.  The Rapid City team had a game scheduled for this coming Saturday; but it has been pushed back until April 24th.

I’m disappointed, but have to concede that maybe it is for the best.  None the less, it’s a definite sign of spring in the backcountry.

Get your goddamned knees fixed so you can take a serious run at Mt.Elbert again. I hereby promise to go along next time.
