More on the Best of Iowa City

December 1, 2009

It was a long drive, but it gave time for reflection.  On the whole, the slough behind the kid’s apartment is a top attraction.  I took the Zig-oid out for a final walk and found a path that took us down to the shore line.  It is indeed a rip place, just calling for someone to visit with a punt boat.  If I lived there I’d have to build a little flat-bottomed duck boat like Clever Lyle had.

The drive back was also enhanced by falling back into an old, old pastime — listening to the football game on the AM station while driving.  We tuned in the Vikings/Bears game and followed it over land using three different stations.  The final station was a partisan one out of Chicago which made the entire experience that much more enjoyable.  We were pretty fixated on the broadcast; so much so that I blew through the junction with I-35 without realizing it.
