SD Pheasant Management Plan open for comment

October 16, 2009

The SD Game Fish & Parks Department has its proposed 5-year management plan for pheasants out for public review and comment.  There is a 30-day comment period open on the draft.

GF&P is concerned about what is going to happen because of the recent and future loss of habitat land which was enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Plan.  There is an increasing trend toward breaking CRP land to put into corn for the ethanol fuel.  And, as in most management plans we see nowdays, GF&P promises it will be utilizing adaptive management with regard to pheasants.  Things aren’t necessarily going to stay the same for pheasants and hunters in this state.  So get the plan and look it over.

You can find the draft pheasant management plan on the GF&P website at under the “What’s New” section.  You can also send any comments you have about the plan back to GF&P through the provided internet link.  Printed copies of the draft plan can be obtained by writing to:  Pheasant Management Plan, Game, Fish & Parks Department, 523 East Capitol Ave., Pierre, SD 57501.  If you want to submit written comments on the plan, they can be mailed to this address.
